Sports
We offer training and competition in a variety of both traditional and nontraditional sports.
The guiding principle of the sports program at both camps is that every camper receives exposure to a variety of sports through both clinics and competition. After a skills-based assessment, campers are placed on teams with equally abled peers. This gives each boy or girl an opportunity to participate and enhance their self-esteem in an environment where they can take risks and make mistakes. This is an integral part of the Susquehannock learning experience.
Team competition, while robust, is never allowed to overwhelm the primary goals of learning and sportsmanship. For example, counselors are trained to utilize player-focused techniques when leading clinics, coaching from the sidelines, or officiating games. At the end of each competition, teams give congratulatory cheers for their opponents. At Susquehannock, winning is not the point; rather, we focus on providing fun and balanced competition which fosters a dynamic learning experience.
